This is Hybrid. A book by a+t

This book is an interesting read, discussing an especially urgent topic for the architects and urbanists of our time.
See here a link to a pdf preview.
It talks about the important difference between a social-condenser building and a hybrid one - and the fact that we should all adapt and start to think about buildings in the city as hybrids. This last type encourages good functioning of the public space and the productive sector in urban areas. As the book so beautifully puts it, the hybrid building type is the urban heart-beat.

Differences between hybrid and social condenser:
1. Hybrid
• Diversity of uses, including residential • Different initiatives • Insertion adapted to the urban fabric • Public uses • Built examples: Torre Velasca, Barbican, Marina City Complex, John Hancock Centre, Brunswick Centre, Ihme Zentrum, The Galleria
2. Social condenser
• Residential buildings with a service programme associated to the dwellings • Public initiative • Isolated location in the urban fabric • Exclusive use of the service programme by residents • Built examples: Unité d'habitation, Park Hill, Gallaratese Complex, Trellick Tower, Corviale.
