In 2008, in San Diego, California, over 300 concerned citizens
participated in a series of community meetings, design workshops and
surveys focused on the difficulties many artists in San Diego face.
Starting with the problem of finding an affordable work studios and
work/live spaces, and the lack of events and opportunities to perform, produce
and show their work.
This meetings generated the space and principles of Space 4 Art.
Their goal was to establish a creative center where artists live, work,
and interact with their community.
Only after one year Space 4 Art had already 3 warehouses where
professionals work, display and some of them even live. Together with
the community's support, an outdoor stage and a classroom were built.
Today 36 artists work and/or live there.
Madrid is a City with a very rich and ancestral artistic history but
nowadays the same problem that we found in San Diego can be found here,
wether is for the lack of art dedicated spaces or the very large amount
of artists the problem is the same.
Places such as Arte Oculto Madrid is a coworking space which goal is to
promote the cultural and artistic creations within the Usera
neighborhood in Madrid, make this goal a step closer to be accomplished.
